Purpose of This Document
These guidelines are designed to orient participants accepted into the Build From Scratch (BFS) Mentorship Initiative as mentees. They explain what BFS expects from mentees and how mentees can fully benefit from the mentorship relationship.
BFS is a structured mentorship program, not an informal advice platform. Growth requires responsibility and effort.
Role of a BFS Mentee
As a BFS mentee, you are expected to:
- Take responsibility for your personal, academic, and career growth
- Actively engage in mentorship sessions and activities
- Be open to guidance, feedback, and correction
- Apply lessons learned to real-life situations
Mentorship supports growth, but the work belongs to the mentee.
Scope of Mentorship
Under BFS, mentorship may include:
- Academic and career guidance
- Professional skills development
- Personal finance awareness and planning
- Goal setting and progress tracking
- Character development and discipline
Mentorship does not include financial assistance, guarantees of employment, or personal dependency.
Commitment & Participation
Mentees are required to:
- Attend scheduled mentorship sessions consistently
- Complete assigned tasks within agreed timelines
- Prepare for sessions and follow up on feedback
- Communicate respectfully and responsibly
Inconsistency may affect continued participation in the program.
Professional Conduct & Ethics
All BFS mentees must:
- Show respect to mentors, coordinators, and peers
- Maintain honesty in communication and reporting
- Observe appropriate boundaries with mentors
- Protect the confidentiality of discussions
- Represent ZEF positively at all times
Misconduct may lead to review or removal from the program.
Communication Guidelines
- Use agreed communication channels only
- Observe respectful communication hours
- Communicate clearly and purposefully
- Avoid excessive messaging or dependency
Mentorship thrives on mutual respect and boundaries.
Accountability & Progress Tracking
Mentees are expected to:
- Track personal goals and progress
- Accept feedback and corrections constructively
- Report challenges honestly
- Participate in evaluations when required
Accountability is central to growth under BFS.
Time Management & Availability
- Mentees should manage their time responsibly
- Inform mentors early if unable to attend sessions
- Balance mentorship with academics, work, and personal responsibilities
Reliability builds trust.
Support from ZEF
ZEF provides:
- A structured mentorship framework
- Oversight and coordination
- Support channels for concerns or guidance
Mentees are encouraged to raise concerns appropriately.
Agreement
By participating as a BFS mentee, you confirm that you:
- Understand the expectations outlined above
- Are willing to commit to structured mentorship
- Agree to uphold ZEF’s values and standards
