The Build From Scratch (BFS) Mentorship Initiative invites dedicated professionals and academics to serve as mentors and help shape the academic, career, and personal growth of young people.
BFS mentors are not advisers for one-time sessions — they are partners in long-term development, providing guidance, accountability, and positive example.
Who We Are Looking For
You may apply to become a BFS mentor if you are:
- An academic, professional, or practitioner with relevant experience
- Knowledgeable in career development, finance, research, or professional skills
- Passionate about youth development and nation-building
- Willing to mentor with sincerity, consistency, and professionalism
What Mentors Do
As a BFS mentor, you will:
- Guide mentees in academic, career, and professional matters
- Support skill development and goal setting
- Review tasks, progress, and challenges
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement
- Uphold ethical conduct, confidentiality, and respect
Mentorship under BFS is structured, monitored, and purpose-driven.
Areas of Mentorship Support
Mentors may support mentees in one or more of the following areas:
- Career planning and decision-making
- Workplace professionalism and job readiness
- Entrepreneurship and self-development
- Personal finance, budgeting, and goal setting
- Skill development and capacity building
How the Mentor Process Works
- Application
- Complete the online mentor application form
- Screening
- Applications are reviewed by the BFS committee
- Onboarding
- Selected mentors receive guidelines and orientation
- Assignment
- Mentors are matched with mentees based on expertise and availability
